Georgia / The Woodlands TX Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

My commute for this session was walking just a few houses down the street. Ok, truth be told, I drove…because I had a few things to unload, but it was so wonderful to get to take one of my sweet neighbor’s newborn photos.

Georgia is the perfect caboose for this family of six and her older siblings are just the sweetest. They could not get enough of her and just wanted to hold and snuggle her as much as possible…well, everyone but possibly number three in line. You’ll have to scroll down a few to see when she decided she might be done with the photo session.

Newly promoted older siblings, who also still happen to be babies or toddlers themselves offer some of the best comedic relief during newborn photo sessions. You better believe my clients are also getting some of those outtake photos because they will no doubt make them laugh and they will treasure those as well. Then they’ll probably pat themselves on the back for surviving this sweet, but often chaotic stage of life with multiple kids you can count the age of on one hand.

I absolutely loved how classic our setting was for this session. I get a little excited when a client tells me they have white bedding. I can shoot a newborn photo session anywhere, but I love how classic and clean white bedding looks as a backdrop. Sometimes people are timid when sharing that they have a bold accent wall or paint color, but when combined with lighter bedding, it just complements the setting so well….especially when we have some great windows to allow that beautiful, natural light in. Since I am a natural light photographer and can’t tell you the last time I used a flash, all of those factors play into my photo setup.

I absolutely loved this session and am so excited to share it with you!

My favorite location for a photo session is definitely in your home. It tells so much a part of your story and is the truest setting for capturing your life. It’s even more ideal for babies and small children.

One reason I love it so much for this age is that I love to show off the nursery….and parents love to show it off. After all …they have put a lot of work into creating this space….and probably a lot of time on Pinterest doing so. =) You better believe you should have some pictures to document this sweet space.

When I first spoke with this mom she shared that she wanted to capture this baby stage at home as well as their life as new parents. I asked her where in their home they spent the most time and she described their kitchen nook and mentioned coffee. I loved this because isn’t every new parent using coffee as at least one of their survival tools?!

My favorite images from this session were actually probably in that kitchen nook, and you’ll want to scroll through these pictures all the way to the bottom to see them!

One of my favorite emails to receive is one from a previous newborn photo client letting me know that they are expecting again and would like to book another newborn photo session. It’s always exciting to get to work together again, knowing they treasured and valued the photos from their first experience so much that they would ask you back to do it again.

Not only that, but I get to see how much that first little baby has grown and blossomed, and are now taking on a new role as a big sibling. So as the case with this next family who welcomed, their second little girl over this summer.

This family photo session was so fun because I had not seen this family since we did Emma’s newborn session, and now we got to celebrate her first birthday with another photo shoot!

I had a location in mind, and pulled up to realize that a busload of prom kiddos also had it mind. So….I scrambled and went off the grid, and it ended up working out perfectly! It was actually fairly overcast, which played in our favor because if it had been sunny, this location wouldn’t have worked. Thankfully, we didn’t need to worry about it and rolled with it.

Although my fall family sessions are booked for the remainder of 2019, I just had to share this one with you from last year. This family always brings the fun. See I’m not looking for the “perfect picture”. I’m looking for the come-just-as-you-are, be yourselves kind of people! The perfect picture happens when you are being perfectly YOU. Those in between moments when the kids forget there is a camera in their face….or better yet are having a dance party FOR the camera….those always end up being my favorites.

I love this subURBAN location as well. Sometimes when I suggest it, people aren’t always so sure…and I wouldn’t bring extremely little ones to it because there is …well open water, but it’s such a fun place to roam and explore. It feels like we’re on a little adventure with lots of short pit stops along the way. This works great for kiddos because who likes sitting still with a camera in their face. NOBODY.

We were all the good kind of exhausted at the end of this session. But the kids got snacks, and we had lots of laughs. A few weeks later, Meagan sent me the most beautiful Christmas card with this picture on the front thanking me for how I had captured their family perfectly, just as they are. Nothing makes me happier.

I feel like I’m saying this a lot lately, but here we are again. I’m about to schedule this little love’s first birthday photo session and I’m just now getting a chance to share her in home newborn photos with you! This means, I also still need to share her four month and sitter sessions with you as well, because she is one of my Watch Me Grow babies. I actually just sent her sitter session pictures to mom, which we took in their gorgeous new home, so I’m sure it will be extra special to have these newborn pictures done at the place they brought her home to. It really is amazing how much can change in one year …..and it’s why I LOVE doing Watch Me Grow packages.

Not only do these babies grow so much but so do these big brothers and sisters! It’s fun to be able to involve everybody. Charlotte was absolute perfection for her newborn photo session. She slept almost the entire time and only woke up for the very end of the session…you’ll have to scroll all the way down to see those photos, but you really should because she gave us the sweetest smiles!

I’m so excited to introduce you to sweet Savannah! She slept for a little bit and was wide eyed for most of the session, which ended up getting us so many pictures that I loved!

Yes, I always love the sleepy baby pictures, but I can’t get enough of the ones when these newborn babes stare into their momma’s eyes or listen and watch big brother sing them a song.

Speaking of big brothers, this one could not get enough of his little sister. He wanted to hug her, hold her, kiss her, touch her and I loved every bit of it!

Family maternity photos are such a fun session! Yes, we still get some of those more classic, beautiful maternity shots, but we also focus a lot on all of these people who are excited to welcome this newest arrival.

This is not only a maternity photo session but a time to capture those last few days as a family of 3 before you become 4!

I almost always shoot maternity sessions during magic hour…those last couple of hours before sunset. That’s when you can find the most beautiful light! I also like shooting maternity sessions near water whenever possible. If you have location ideas of your own or something you would like to incorporate, I’m always open to new ideas too, so let’s discuss!

Grayson 4 month in home session / The Woodlands TX Lifestyle Family Photographer

Seeing as how I’m shooting this little guy’s 1st birthday photo session next week, I figured it was about time I share his in home session we did when he was four months old.

The four month old photo sessions are my favorite out of the Watch Me Grow 1st year packages. These sweet babies have grown so much since their newborn sessions. They are smiling, rolling around, laughing and letting their little (or sometimes big) personalities shine through! I also love that these sessions almost always take place at home. Home is where they are most comfortable and it’s fun capturing play time, cuddle time and sometimes even nap time! There is nothing cuter than all of those roles and squishy thighs too!

I think my favorite part of in home baby sessions is that they are temperature controlled…which means any time of year is ideal. Check out Grayson’s session below. I loved watching him interact with big sister, Sloane, and it was fun to get more pictures of this Pinterest worthy nursery too!

Adam / The Woodlands TX Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

When I first starting working as a newborn photographer….many, many years ago (eight, to be specific), I used to get a little nervous shooting a newborn photo session with a young sibling. Now…they are some of my very favorite sessions to do!

Often newly promoted big siblings want to be my helper. They want to come up with ideas for shots, show me where their room is, where the baby sleeps, show me how they hold the baby…or NOT. Any kind of involvement is on their terms. We know there is not much reasoning you can do with a two year old, am I right? I never force any kind of affection or smiles…forced smiles are NOT my favorite. You know what I LOVE? When they reach for that tiny finger on their own, when they can’t get enough of the baby that they smother them with kisses….when they curl up into mom or dad’s lap because THEY want to be the baby again. Those all make for the best shots.

Even when they decide they’ve had enough and give me a pouty face…..or decide to literally climb the furniture, or grab a Costco size bag of popcorn and plop themselves in the middle of the shot, or decide playing with Buzz Lightyear is WAY more fun that this photo session….those all make great shots too. I’ve had all of those types of shots in recent sessions too, by the way! You’re going to have to scroll through to see which one we got in this session!

This is lifestyle. This is your life. It’s going to make you cry, make you laugh, and you’re going to want to document it all.
