Eriksen Family / The Woodlands TX Family Photographer

This family is pretty special to me because I have been shooting them (that always sounds weird to say)… for over five years now. Our very first session way back when they were getting ready to welcome Grace!

I love that we’ve done all different kinds of locations including Happy Place sessions, in home sessions, and of course sessions like this one below. Grace is SUCH A HAM, and I’m here for it. This girl loves to show off her personality …. which is very easy to get now that we’ve been working together for so long. We just jump right in after HI!

Cole 4 months / Spring TX Baby Photographer

This photo session seems like it was eons ago because of how this year has gone. In fact, this session was only taken a few months ago…back in early March. Elizabeth and I were talking about all of the fun trips we had coming up…COVID was barely on our minds. Ugh. Take me back.

This four month photo session was the second of four in our Watch Me Grow package for Cole. My four month sessions almost always take place in the home. This way no one has to load up the car, take all the extra clothes, rely on great weather, etc. Everyone is way more comfortable!

We let the brothers “play” together and had plenty of time for snuggles too.

This is another special family to me. Not only have I known Ben since high school youth group, but I had the opportunity to take newborn pictures for each of their three kiddos.

As you can imagine, a newborn session for a family of 5 looks a little different than one just after your first baby. I think they are no less beautiful…and maybe, just possibly…even more so because you are totally embracing the beauty of the chaos.

You’re also watching your sweet babies find their way into their newly promoted roles as older siblings. Watching them reach to hold the baby’s hands when he’s crying…that’s enough to make a momma’s heart burst.

I’ve loved getting to watch these kids grow so much over the past few years. When kiddos (like my own) get to the age that they become more aware of the camera…my strategy to get those genuine expressions changes a bit.

Often parents are my biggest tool because they will stand behind me and do whatever it takes to get a laugh (read: embarrass the heck out of) their kids.

Sometimes, I use surprise. These older kids and tweens will be trying their darnedest to show their age and coolness with a solo shot and mom or dad will sneak attack behind them or behind me!

Other times, I take each individual kiddo off to the side and we just hang out chatting a bit (without the camera in their face) so they relax. I love getting to know them more this way too…and they don’t feel like they have everyone’s eyes right on them! Sometimes they feel like they can vent to me a little bit about how brother or sister is driving them crazy. Whatever they need at the moment is great! We can just continue our conversation in between shots and I use this new info to ask them some crazy questions…and these are usually when they smiles and laughs happen.

Jaxon / Houston TX Newborn Photographer

This little guy is another one of my Watch Me Grow Babies…and so was his sister! I’m so thankful for these families that continue to come back to me! I’m attached to their kids! Little Scarlett was excited to introduce me to her brother, Jax. She was also excited to still be the center of attention…which I loved.

One of the reasons that I love these Watch Me Grow packages is that they also document your home, and this stage of life. This family actually made a move shortly after this session. I was delighted that we got to capture this special place where they brought home their two babies. I know they will always have fond memories this haven, and love that they have these pictures to remember them by.

I will be sharing Jax’s second session on the blog soon where you can see their new happy place!

Grayson Turns 1 / The Woodlands TX First Birthday Photographer

Here is another one of my Watch Me Grow babes! We started the beginning of the session with the whole family. Every one of my Watch Me Grow sessions is also a family session. It’s so fun to see these siblings grow too!

Sister wasn’t feeling so great halfway through the session, so she and dad took off while we went to the cake smash. It’s always fun seeing how these babes deal with the cake. You never know if they aren’t going to be that interested or go all in. Grayson was one of the latter, although he started off cautiously.

This family has been featured on my blog a LOT. I’m so grateful that they continue to trust me with their family pictures and memories. We returned to the original location of our first session…way back before William was even here. In fact, I met them during his maternity session, and the rest was history.

I feel like Meredith could be in charge of my entire “what to wear” board on Pinterest. She nails all of their outfits every time, and it’s always fun to see what she pulls together. I couldn’t get enough of sweet William in his sport coat. Did it stop him from almost going straight into the pond? No, it did not. Little kids will be little kids, and that’s what I LOVE.

Hale Twins / The Woodlands TX Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

Get ready for a bit of an overshare. But I mean…it’s a twin newborn photoshoot, so that’s allowed, right? Double the pleasure, double the fun…now I’m sounding like a Double Mint commercial. I just aged myself, didn’t I?

You guys are going to be seeing a lot of these sweet babes over the next year because they are one of my Watch Me Grow families! Their newborn session was a piece of cake. Honestly, all of my newborn photoshoots seem that way because since they are lifestyle photography, there is no stress! I just keep shooting, while talking, and moving around. My camera definitely gets a workout. It’s not unusual at all to leave a newborn session and have taken over 1,000 photos!

Now do my clients get all of those photos? No. They probably wouldn’t hire me again if they did. Can you imagine the amount of space you would need to store all of those? Plus, you probably wouldn’t want them all. I’m not perfect…far from it. I shoot a lot because there are bound to be photos that are missed…maybe the lighting is off, or things were a bit blurry, or we got a pirate eye shot of the baby. Nobody wants those. But by shooting a lot, and I mean A LOT…I leave every session confident and excited to go through and see all of the amazing moments we captured. Then I get to share the best ones with my client…and by share, I mean overshare. They get a bunch. These are just a few of the favorites from this session.

Getting ready for a photo session with little kids is no joke. I always tell my clients when they arrive for a shoot….”Well yay for you! The hard part is over!”.

Photo sessions are supposed to be fun, and I like to think that mine are. There is no stress. Your kid is not doing exactly what you want them to? This is a LIFEstyle session. I’m capturing your life. Life with young kids in unpredictable, hilarious, fun…and maybe a little exhausting. I love getting pictures of all of that…the real laughs, expressions your kid makes that are uniquely them, and the love and chaos that goes along with this stage of life.

Think back to the last time you forced your kids to do something they didn’t want to do. Did you get angelic smiles and cuddles? I’m going to go with NOPE. That’s one of the reasons why we will never force anything in a photo shoot. Sure, I come to every session with a soft plan. But my sessions are family led…which sometimes means KID led. We go with the flow because I like to capture happiness, not misery. Ha!

Wong Family / The Woodlands TX Family & Lifestyle Photographer

Reader, you probably already know that Houston weather is the weirdest! October, especially, can really throw us for a loop. We are so over the Texas heat, but often those families planning outfits for fall photo brace themselves for the possibility of temps in the 90s and 1000% humidity. Or….a blessed cold front surprises us like it did for this session. This wasn’t just any cold front…the wind chill was actually in the 30s!

We bundled and snuggled as much as possible…which makes for cute photos anyways!
